I won’t go into the details or reference every single podcast / YouTube discussion I’ve come across, but almost all of the discussions I’ve seen has devolved into an argument between drilling vs live practice, what kinda games to play or the most frustrating of them all, pushing for a hybrid approach saying that you need both.
The whole argument boils down to whether you believe in direction perception and perception action coupling. It frustrates me to no end listening to a lot of these discussions, many going on for hours without ever addressing whether the person defending the Information Processing (IP) approach knows what the two things are. In one case someone claims to be very familiar with the literature, but when asked whether they know what perception action coupling is they said no.
You can’t simultaneously believe that the Earth is both flat and round. It’s either one or the other. People in ancient times might not have enough evidence to prove one is correct and the other is wrong, but you can’t say “well we can both be right”. The same goes for this debate between Ecological Dynamics and Information Processing. How do you believe humans learn and perform actions? Do you believe that the brain is a central processing unit (CPU) like in a computer? or do you believe it to be more like a radio that’s tuning into signals in a sea of noise?
If you believe in the latter, then even dead drilling is “eco”. It’s just not an effective way to acquire skill.
I think people that plan to do future discussion videos need to establish this baseline of whether you believe the Earth is flat first before you waste everyone’s time on arguing about how Satellite and GPS works.
